Egg Prices Decline by Another $3 as Demand Remains Low; Industry Urges Catering Sector to Lower Prices: Eggs Now in Excess to Feed Pigs

Reported 11 months ago

As chicken egg sales continue to slump, the Taipei Egg Merchants Association reported a further drop of $3 in both farmgate and wholesale prices this week, reaching $27.5 and $37 per pound respectively. With prices hitting a new low in nearly two years with five consecutive decreases, the Association is calling on the catering sector to lower prices to boost sluggish demand. The oversupply of eggs has led to numerous eggs being fed to pigs, with farm production exceeding daily demand, prompting the need for production control to avoid seeking government intervention in the future.
