According to SET News on June 25, 2024, egg prices in Taiwan have decreased by another 2 yuan at the sourcing level, reaching 25.5 yuan per catty, with wholesale prices dropping to 35 yuan from the following day. Despite repeated calls from Taipei Egg Retailers Guild to lower prices, consumers remain indifferent to the price drop. The summer season, already a slow period for egg consumption, coupled with the upcoming summer holidays resulting in a temporary halt in nutritious school lunches, has led to an oversupply of eggs, making it difficult to boost the sluggish consumer market. The price cut is intended to reduce production at the source to balance supply and demand in the market.
