Egg Prices Hit 3-Year Low as Supply Surpasses Demand by 320,000 Daily, 3.6 Million Hens to be Culled to Stabilize Prices

Reported 8 months ago

On June 18, 2024, domestic egg prices in Taiwan dropped for the fifth time, with production reaching record highs resulting in a surplus of 320,000 eggs daily and prices hitting a new low at 27.5 NTD per kilogram at cost and 37 NTD per kilogram at wholesale, the lowest in nearly 3 years, causing great losses for chicken farmers. To address this issue, the Livestock Department of the Ministry of Agriculture plans to cull 3.6 million old laying hens starting in late June in an effort to stabilize egg prices by reducing production at its source.
