Domestic egg prices have been lowered five times, hitting a near three-year low, yet most breakfast shops maintain the same price for an additional egg. Agriculture Minister Chen Chun-chi, along with the Taipei City Egg Merchants Association, have urged restaurant and retail industry to reduce prices simultaneously. The Taiwan Poultry Association also calls for a price reduction on the consumer end to avoid the awkward situation of 'additional egg at breakfast shops costing an extra 20 NT dollars,' causing consumers to refuse to eat. Despite the recent drops in egg prices domestically, the cost of production has fallen to 27.5 NT dollars per kilogram, wholesale prices have dropped below 40 NT dollars, with a single egg at supermarkets priced at 5 NT dollars. However, the price for an additional egg at breakfast shops remains 15 to 20 NT dollars, puzzling many people.
