Recently, oversupply of eggs led to a fourth consecutive drop in egg prices, prompting major supermarkets like Wellcome and Pxmart to start selling eggs at reduced prices. With egg prices hitting a new low in 3 years, agricultural authorities have urged retailers and restaurants to lower prices to boost sales. Wellcome announced a price drop on their 10-piece packaged eggs from 50 to 47 yuan, making it the lowest-priced tea egg at 9 yuan each in Taiwan. Pxmart also lowered their prices on various boxed egg brands, while Costco maintained their prices for free-range eggs. The consistent price drops have not stimulated consumer demand, leading to promotions and discounts across supermarkets to attract buyers.
