According to a report by Lai Junyou on June 20, 2024, an elderly man named Lin revealed that due to economic considerations and age restrictions, he had to live in a capsule hotel. The rising housing prices in Taipei have driven both young people and retirees, like Lin, to opt for capsule hotel accommodations, which offer a living space of 200cm x 100cm with basic facilities at a monthly rate of NT$6,000. The owner of the capsule hotel mentioned that landlords often refuse to rent to individuals above the age of 50, making it difficult for the elderly to find suitable housing despite financial capabilities. Lin expressed his willingness to consider long-term residence in the capsule hotel due to its comfort and convenience.
