Reported about 1 year ago
On July 1, 2024, a 66-year-old man surnamed Xie in New Taipei City's Zhonghe District picked up two strangers on his motorcycle, resulting in a fatal accident where one person died and another was injured. Xie agreed to give the two a ride down the mountain but lost control due to the overloaded weight and lack of helmets, causing the motorcycle to slide off the road. Despite being found guilty of driving without a license and causing a death, Xie was sentenced to four months in prison after the victim's family forgave him unconditionally.
