Recent controversy over priority seats, an elderly man in Taoyuan aged over 80 requested a woman sitting in priority seat on a train to switch seats but was refused. He then proceeded to insult the woman with words like 'you are not human' and 'worse than pigs and dogs', leading the woman to press charges. He was initially sentenced to 10 days detention and a fine of 10,000 NTD for defamation in first instance, but after an unsuccessful appeal, the Taoyuan District Court upheld a fine of 6,000 NTD which is final and cannot be further appealed.
