A 77-year-old man in Daxi District, Taoyuan City, narrowly avoided being scammed out of his savings by a woman he met online who called him 'husband' and convinced him to send over 110,000 yuan for a fake funeral payment. The man, who had never met the woman in person, was alerted by the bank staff while making the transfer, leading to police intervention. Authorities advised the man against falling for the scam and he realized the scheme, thanking the police for saving his money. Police warned the public to be cautious when making online acquaintances to prevent falling victim to scams.
