Taipei Metro, with an average daily ridership exceeding 2 million, has criticized the central government for contradictory policies, pushing for public transportation while significantly raising electricity prices for the metro system. The company hopes for rate adjustments similar to domestic consumption to alleviate the burden of the substantial 53% increase in electricity costs over the past three years. Taipei, Taichung, and Kaohsiung metro companies emphasize the energy-saving role of metros and suggest the central government freeze or propose diverse discount schemes for metro electricity prices to lessen the cost burden of public transportation.
