To prevent landlords from overcharging for electricity and ensure transparency, the Ministry of the Interior has amended the 'Standard Terms for Residential Leases' regarding electricity billing, effective mid-July. Landlords cannot charge more than the 'current average cost per kilowatt-hour' or 'total current electricity costs.' The amendment aims to promote fairness, transparency, and reasonable pricing in electricity billing for renters, allowing them to access information from utility companies directly. The proposal was approved by the Executive Yuan's Consumer Protection Commission on June 28, and the regulations are expected to be formally implemented in mid-July.
