Taxpayers may receive a $1,400 stimulus check by the end of January, depending on their 2021 tax return filings. The IRS plans to distribute about $2.4 billion to those who did not claim the Recovery Rebate Credit, a refundable credit for individuals who missed Economic Impact Payments. Eligible taxpayers will automatically receive payment, either by direct deposit or check, and they can verify their eligibility by checking if they left the Recovery Rebate Credit field blank on their tax returns. Those who didn't file a 2021 return can still qualify by filing and claiming the credit by April 15.
