Rare Footage Captures Elusive Octopus Squid with World's Largest Biological Lights Attacking Camera

Researchers from the Minderoo Foundation and the University of Western Australia captured exceptionally rare footage of a Dana octopus squid attacking an underwater camera with its bright bioluminescent lights 3,281 feet below the Pacific Ocean's surface. This squid species, known for its colossal size, has two arms with photophores at the tips emitting bursts of light for stunning prey and possible communication. Live sightings are scarce, with the first live sighting occurring only 19 years ago.
