In response to a production halt by Yong Fong Chemical resulting in a shortage of IV bags, the Ministry of Health and Welfare has initiated an emergency import project. The first batch of 100,000 bags from Malaysia is expected to arrive at Taipei Port tonight, with a second batch of 216,000 bags from Vietnam scheduled to reach Taiwan on the 15th. The Ministry estimates shortages until October, with efforts to increase production capacity domestically and through imports. Six domestic pharmaceutical companies have increased production capacity, and a total of seven drug companies are assisting with the special import. The Ministry aims to ensure an adequate supply for medical institutions. Alternate medicines have been listed on a drug supply information platform, and talks of opening new production lines with domestic qualified manufacturers are underway.
