On June 22, 2024, a Korean Air flight from Incheon to Taichung had to make an emergency return due to an issue with the pressurization system onboard, causing oxygen masks to be deployed and resulting in over 13 passengers experiencing ear pain with 13 of them requiring medical attention upon landing. The flight, operated by Korean Air under flight number KE-189 using a Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft, was scheduled to depart from Incheon Airport at 3:30 PM local time but encountered the malfunction over Jeju Island, prompting the return to Incheon. Investigations are ongoing to determine the cause of the incident.
