Due to a shortage of nurses, many hospitals have had to 'close beds,' leading to overcrowded emergency rooms. During a questioning session by Nationalist Party (KMT) legislator Yeh Yu-chih towards Minister of Health and Welfare Lee Taeyang, Lee's response of considering waiting in the emergency room for a bed as a normal daily occurrence prompted Yeh to express his disbelief. Yeh proposed offering special incentives to nurses in critical units and allocating budgets for nurse education and training to address the urgent situation. He also requested specific data on hospital staff and the number of closed beds from the Health Ministry to better understand the current challenges faced in emergency rooms.
