A company in Shanghai deducted over 200,000 RMB (approximately 890,000 NTD) from an employee's salary within a year due to multiple late arrivals. After the labor arbitration ruled that the company should pay the salary difference, the company disagreed and brought the case to court. The court stated that while employers can penalize employees for being late, imposing fines multiple times exceeding the salary violates legal regulations and common sense. The court eventually ordered the company to pay the employee 886,000 NTD in salary due to the unjust salary deductions for absenteeism.
