A 37-year-old engineer in Taiwan mistakenly thought his bloody stools were from hemorrhoids and delayed seeking medical help, only to discover six months later that he was in the terminal stage of colon cancer. Gastroenterologist Hsiao Dun-ren warned that bloody stools could be a sign of colon cancer, Taiwan's leading cancer for 15 years. The engineer's condition worsened, spreading to his abdomen, and he passed away within six months. Hsiao shared this case as a cautionary tale and listed the 7 major symptoms of colon cancer for early detection, urging immediate colonoscopies for positive fecal occult blood tests to prevent late-stage diagnoses.
