In a recent session at the Legislative Yuan's Foreign Affairs and National Defense Committee, Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) legislator Lin Tai-Hua raised concerns about the ineffectiveness of the current 'three-level suicide prevention mechanism' in the military, citing statistics of 136 military personnel who died by suicide in the past eight years. Lin emphasized the need for the Ministry of National Defense to prioritize the mental health issues among servicemen and implement concrete reforms to significantly improve psychological counseling services, ensuring the well-being and safety of military personnel. Lin called for a more empathetic and caring approach towards soldiers, addressing their emotional and psychological needs to prevent further tragic losses.
