In response to pedestrian accidents in the first quarter of this year, with 69% of pedestrian fatalities involving car collisions and the majority of victims being elderly individuals, Taoyuan City Police Department has reported a decrease in pedestrian accidents from January to May compared to the previous year but aims to further reduce incidents through continued traffic law enforcement in June to create a pedestrian-friendly traffic environment. Emphasizing a 'people-oriented traffic' approach, the police are targeting major violations such as drunk driving, speeding, running red lights, failure to yield to pedestrians, and jaywalking, alongside the use of 20 new technological enforcement spots activated in June to decrease pedestrian accidents.
