The Ministry of Environmental Protection in Taiwan held its fourth carbon fee rate review meeting on July 5, 2024, discussing the impact of different fee rate levels on industries. According to simulations presented by the ministry, a fee rate of one thousand yuan per ton would have a minimal impact on the overall economy and is even lower than the impact of an electricity price increase. The ministry will provide more comprehensive assessment data at the next meeting, aiming to implement the carbon fee system promptly, as Taiwan's initiation has been relatively slow. Various fee rate scenarios were discussed, with the highest estimated impact on GDP being approximately 942 billion yuan.
