EU-China Negotiates on Electric Vehicle Subsidy Tariffs

Reported 8 months ago

German Vice Chancellor and Minister for Economic Affairs, Robert Habeck, held talks with Chinese officials in Beijing where it was agreed for the EU to initiate negotiations on imposing tariffs on Chinese electric vehicles. The escalating trade dispute includes the EU planning to impose tariffs on Chinese electric cars starting July 4, while China has launched an anti-dumping investigation on EU pork products. The discussions also encompassed other topics like climate change and the political situation in Europe. Habeck emphasized the need for updated strategic relations with China considering practices of other European countries. The EU aims to counterbalance what they view as preferential treatments provided by the Chinese government to domestic companies in the electric vehicle industry.
