The European Commission has fined Mondelez, the maker of Oreo cookies, 337.5 million euros for impeding cross-border sales of its products within EU member states. Mondelez, which also owns Cadbury and Toblerone, among other brands, engaged in anticompetitive practices aimed at restricting the trade of chocolate, biscuits, and coffee products. This resulted in higher prices for consumers and violated EU competition rules. The Commission highlighted the importance of free movement of goods in the single market and the impact on grocery prices, particularly in times of high inflation.
