The European Commission plans to impose provisional duties on Chinese electric vehicles (EVs) from 17.4% to 38.1% on top of the 10% tariff for car imports by July 4. Provisional duties can be imposed within nine months of the start of an EU anti-subsidy investigation. The investigation is ongoing, with interested parties having until mid-July to comment. Final duties may be lower than provisional rates, and the Commission can propose definitive duties for up to 5 years. Companies can challenge measures in court, and China can involve the World Trade Organization.
