The EU summit on the 17th failed to finalize the selection of the EU's top three leaders, delaying the announcement to the end of this month. However, it is likely that the current President of the European Commission, Van der Leyen, will continue in office. The focus is on the negotiation of these three key leadership positions for geographical and political balance, with a consensus forming that Van der Leyen will continue, Costa taking the role of Council President, and Karas taking over Borrell's position as the EU's High Representative for Foreign and Security Policy. The position of the President of the European Parliament is yet to be determined by the Parliament itself, with current President Sassoli likely to continue for another 2.5 years.
