The European Commission's decision to implement tariffs on Chinese electric vehicles (EVs) poses a risk to long-standing cooperation with China and jeopardizes climate objectives, according to Xinhua. Despite Germany's rejection of these tariffs, the EU has moved forward with them, leading to concerns about triggering a trade conflict. The proposed tariffs, which could reach up to 45%, are intended to counter perceived unfair Chinese subsidies, but have drawn strong opposition from China, which is challenging them at the WTO. Analysts warn this protectionist approach could undermine Europe's green transition ambitions.
