Europe Cross-Border Train Collides with Bus in Slovakia, Igniting Fire Resulting in 7 Deaths and 5 Injuries

On June 28, 2024, at 1:33 a.m., a cross-border express train bound for Budapest, Hungary, collided with a bus at a level crossing in Slovakia, causing the front part of the train to burst into flames, resulting in 7 deaths and 5 injuries. The cause of the accident is under investigation. Fortunately, the quick response of the train driver prevented a derailment, but the collision led to casualties. In a separate incident in Illinois, USA, a freight train derailed with hazardous materials onboard, prompting evacuations within a 1.6 km radius, which were later lifted without any significant incidents.
