The London-based Institute for Quality of Life recently released the Happy City Index report, with the top 17 cities all in Europe. Three Taiwanese cities made the list: Taipei at 46th, Kaohsiung at 64th, and Taoyuan at 88th, along with Tokyo in Japan and Busan in South Korea, all classified as Silver Medal cities. The report analyzed various indicators related to residents' quality of life and happiness, ranking 250 cities globally based on factors like people, governance, environment, economy, and transportation mobility, categorizing them into Gold, Silver, and Bronze groups. Europe had the top 17 cities, with Denmark's Aarhus leading, followed by Zurich and Berlin. The U.S. had 10 cities among the happiest, with Minneapolis standing out in the Gold group. Asia saw Osaka, Singapore, Seoul, Tokyo, and Busan as Gold and Silver cities, while cities like Kyoto, Sydney, Vancouver, Bangkok, and Kuala Lumpur fell into the Bronze group. Researchers emphasized the complexity of measuring happiness solely based on statistics, acknowledging various determining factors in each location's impact on an individual's happiness.
