On June 9, 2024, at 7:00 pm, the Kaohsiung City Taxation and Administration Department was censured by the Audit Office for not actively checking and assessing vehicles with overdue license plate tax payments, marking a repeated neglect in tax enforcement. Despite issuing over 3,000 cases and collecting over NT$16 million in taxes and penalties, the department denied any mishap, attributing it to disruptive audit procedures. This comes as part of a recurring pattern, with several instances in the past where the department failed to enforce tax payment regulations, raising concerns over the city's financial management amidst Mayor Chen Chi-mai's accomplishments and upcoming election.
