Vietnamese electric vehicle manufacturer VinFast is considering further delaying the construction of a planned $4 billion factory in North Carolina, as the company, facing losses, struggles to appeal to U.S. consumers. Initially scheduled for completion in 2024 and pushed back to 2025, the factory's operation start-up may see another delay. Despite ambitions to sell 100,000 cars this year and expand globally, VinFast reported a net loss of $618 million in the first quarter and faces legal challenges in the U.S. while planning assembly plants in Indonesia and India by 2026.
