President Tsai Ing-wen approved the Executive Yuan's reasons for submitting a reconsideration of the Legislative Powers Exercise Law and amendments to the Criminal Code, reiterating difficulties in reforming the laws and seeking a review in accordance with the constitution, in hopes of finding consensus in line with constitutional principles and national interests. The Executive Yuan emphasized that the reconsideration is not to escalate opposition and conflict but to engage in constructive constitutional dialogues, urging the Legislative Yuan to respect the constitution and empathize with public opinion regarding parliamentary reform bills following the Legislative Powers Exercise Law. Several provisions were noted to be problematic, including violations of democratic principles and checks and balances, potentially infringing on human rights and impeding law enforcement if left unchanged.
