Economic Affairs Minister Guo Zhuihui responded to MediaTek's call for expanding Taiwan's chip law tax incentives by promising assistance during a legislative session, despite MediaTek's statement that they have not benefited from the incentives. The industry innovation act's section 10-2, also known as the Taiwan chip law, has seen only four semiconductor firms apply for the tax benefits, with MediaTek investing significantly in R&D yet missing out on the benefits. The government is now considering expanding tax deductions for IC design firms and updating laws to accommodate AI and high-performance equipment, aiming for legislative review by September.
