Long-term caregiving can lead to tragic outcomes, as recent research in Taiwan found that caregivers under high physical and emotional stress often have suicidal thoughts or engage in self-harm. Over two-thirds of caregiving tragedies involved murder-suicide cases, mostly attributed to caregivers' chronic sleep deprivation leading to insomnia and depression. With the decrease in family support in modern society, caregivers face immense challenges, leading to severe mental health issues. Experts urge caregivers to prioritize self-care and seek mental health support to reduce the risk of depression and self-harm.
