Gong Xiangsheng, Director of the Taipei Civil Engineering Technician Association, emphasized the urgent need for Taiwan to promptly enact the 'Infrastructure Construction Law' or 'Civil Construction Law' to institutionalize the national infrastructure promotion process. Despite Taiwan ranking 8th in the 2024 IMD World Competitiveness Yearbook, its 'Basic Infrastructure' sub-index remains a critical area for improvement, highlighting the necessity for specialized legislation to ensure proper management and regulation of major construction projects and avoid the politicization of public infrastructure development. The establishment of a regulatory framework with licensing requirements and documentation retention for all major projects is suggested to enhance efficiency and ensure sustainable development.
