Heatwaves continue to strike various regions in the Northern Hemisphere, with temperatures soaring to 45 degrees during the daytime in Northern India. Large numbers of bats unable to withstand the high temperatures are dying in groups, leading to mass casualties on the ground. In the US, as many as 100 million people are in high-temperature alert areas, with this year's heatwave arriving earlier than usual. Southern Europe is also experiencing continuous high temperatures, with Sicily in southern Italy already reaching 40 degrees, and this weekend Spain is expected to be hit by the heatwave. On Wednesday, New Delhi in India hit a nighttime high of 35.2 degrees, but relief came on Friday with heavy rain. However, Northern India is sweltering with daytime temperatures peaking at around 45 degrees, resulting in a distressing sight of bats unable to bear even the shaded temperatures dying en masse on the ground.
