On June 14, 2024, Okinawa, Japan was hit by record-breaking heavy rain with streets turning into rivers and evacuation orders issued to 310,000 residents in Naha City. This affected domestic flights at Naha Airport. Meanwhile, mainland Japan experienced high temperatures exceeding 30 degrees Celsius in Tokyo and Kyoto. The heavy rain in Okinawa caused flooding and accidents for four days, while thunderstorms led to power outages for 240 households in Naha City. Furthermore, areas like Sapporo and Kyoto are forecasted to see temperatures rise up to 35 degrees in the coming days.
