Exxon Mobil has initiated a lawsuit against California, contesting two state laws that mandate large companies to publicly disclose their greenhouse gas emissions and climate-related financial risks. In its complaint, filed in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of California, Exxon claims these laws violate its First Amendment rights and force it to adopt frameworks it deems misleading. The controversial laws, SB 253 and SB 261, are supported by several major companies but face opposition from industry groups who label them as burdensome.
