ExxonMobil is entering the power generation sector by planning a large natural gas-fired power plant specifically designed to supply electricity to energy-intensive data centers. This facility is expected to have a generating capacity of over 1,500 MW and will incorporate technology to capture more than 90% of its carbon dioxide emissions. As demand for electricity surges due to advancements in artificial intelligence and the tech industry, Exxon aims to have the plant operational within five years without connecting it to the power grid, thereby streamlining the permitting process.
