Facial recognition startup Clearview AI has settled a lawsuit in Illinois, where their collection of images was alleged to have violated privacy rights, estimated to be worth over $50 million. The agreement offers plaintiffs a share of Clearview's potential value rather than a traditional payout, with attorneys' fees estimated at $20 million being deducted from the settlement amount. Clearview AI had faced multiple lawsuits for creating a database of faces sourced from social media and the internet, selling access to various entities, and will continue working with federal agencies and law enforcement outside of Illinois under a separate agreement from 2022.
