Claims circulating on social media that a photo showing astronauts without helmets on the moon suggests the moon landings were staged have been debunked as false. The image actually depicts Apollo 16 astronauts during a training exercise at Kennedy Space Center in Florida, not on the moon. Two of the astronauts in the picture, Charles M Duke and John W Young, did land on the moon in 1972 wearing their helmets. This misinformation is part of a larger trend of false claims attempting to discredit the authenticity of the moon landings, such as the debunked theory that Stanley Kubrick directed the Apollo 11 moon landing in 1969.
