A video and message circulating online since June 28, 2024, claimed that solar panel installers were using hydrochloric acid to clean solar panels. Experts confirmed with MyGoPen that solar panels only require cleaning with water and a brush. The use of corrosive solutions like hydrochloric acid could damage the panels, frames, and wirings. Inquiries found that the original video source was TikTok user '00887799go' and the claim was debunked by experts from universities and industry associations. It was concluded that using only water for cleaning solar panels is sufficient, and the use of hydrochloric acid would lead to damage rather than effective cleaning.
