Failed to Secure 30 Million Funding, Hsinchu's Xinfeng Stone Weirs Maintained Original Appearance

Reported 12 months ago

After the opening of the dual bike lanes, many people visit and take photos at the Xinfeng Stone Weirs during sunset, with some fishing in the weirs during low tide. Hsinchu County Government had applied for 30 million in funding to repair the weirs, but as they lack cultural heritage status, only received 28 million for pathway repairs. Despite being proposed as a cultural landscape in 2019, the weirs are not yet protected as such, allowing visitors to freely explore within them. The weirs were historically used for fishing, utilizing oyster shells to trap fish during tide changes. The government aimed to restore them as an eco-educational site and tourist attraction, but due to funding limitations, could only repair the pathways surrounding the weirs.
