A study by Israeli tech company Cyabra revealed that fake accounts on social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, are proliferating with regards to the U.S. presidential election. The report found that 15% of accounts praising former President Donald Trump and criticizing President Joe Biden are fake, while 7% of accounts praising Biden and criticizing Trump are also fake. The analysis, conducted over two months, showed a significant increase in newly detected fake accounts during March and April, with the fake pro-Trump accounts being part of a coordinated campaign to influence public opinion. The study did not identify the individuals or groups behind the campaign, but highlighted the presence of identical hashtags and simultaneous posting as evidence of a nefarious objective.
