Relatives of passengers who died in two Boeing Max crashes are urging the Justice Department to prosecute the company on criminal charges related to the accidents, with a deadline set for this fall. The Justice Department recently found Boeing in violation of a settlement agreement for deceiving regulators in the approval of the 737 Max, and a decision on potential sanctions is expected by July 7. Boeing had previously agreed to a $2.5 billion settlement in 2021 to avoid prosecution on fraud charges, mostly for compensating airlines. The families of the crash victims have been trying to challenge this settlement since then, and new investigations were sparked after a Max incident involving Alaska Airlines in January. Boeing has denied any wrongdoing and stated they are cooperating with the Justice Department's inquiries.
