During the installation of a new Guanyin statue at Yonghe Temple in Luodong, Yilan, the statue's head broke into two pieces when the hanging rope snapped due to a worker's mistake. Folklore expert Gao Yulin expressed concerns that the new statue may be invaded by evil spirits since the temple did not perform any purification rituals. He explained the importance of traditional practices such as wrapping the eyes or head of the statue in red paper before installation to prevent negative influences. Gao emphasized that neglecting these customs could lead to unfortunate occurrences.
