Study: Fitness Influencers' Fans Exercise More but Are More Depressed

Reported 4 months ago

A new study indicates that followers of fitness influencers are more likely to exercise vigorously and have a better diet, including more fruit and vegetable intake, but they also report higher levels of mental distress. The research involved 1,022 young adults from three English-speaking countries and found that those who actively follow fitness influencers on Instagram tend to have healthier lifestyles but also face increased risks of compulsive behaviors, including eating disorders, due to the pressure to conform to the 'fit ideal' propagated by influencers on social media.
