Bird Flu Outbreak Forces Iowa Egg Farm to Cull 4.2 Million Chickens

Reported 4 months ago

More than 4 million chickens in Iowa are being culled due to a highly pathogenic bird flu outbreak at a large egg farm in Sioux County. This outbreak is part of a larger trend affecting dairy cattle, leading to the slaughter of nearly 1.4 million chickens in Minnesota. The virus has now spread to cattle in nine states, and although the public health risk is low, workers exposed to infected animals are at higher risk. The outbreak has resulted in the culling of 92.34 million birds since 2022.
