On June 13, 2024, a Porsche SUV rear-ended a tanker truck on National Highway 1, killing the driver, a well-known chain shoe store owner named Sung, on the spot. Sung, aged 39, had a successful shoe cleaning business with up to 13 franchise stores across Taiwan and even in China. The accident involved multiple vehicles on the road, and while alcohol tests for other drivers came out negative, further investigation on potential drunk driving is underway. Sung, who was once a prominent figure in the shoe cleaning industry, saw his company shutting down in 2018, but his determination shown by reopening stores later. Relatives are cooperating with authorities to uncover the cause of the crash.
