On July 1, a 68-year-old man drove a small van near the City Hall Station. At 9:27 PM, he drove in the wrong direction on Sejong-daero towards the Korea Hotel, crashing into two vehicles and then directly hitting a group of people on the sidewalk, resulting in 9 deaths, 1 serious injury, and 3 minor injuries. The police have arrested the driver, and the detailed cause of the accident is still under investigation. Eyewitnesses described a loud noise and seeing multiple people lying on the roadside. After the accident, the fire department dispatched 37 vehicles and 134 personnel to the scene, but still, 6 people died on the spot, 3 died while being taken to the hospital. Another 4 injured individuals were sent to the hospital, with 3 having minor injuries and 1 in critical condition and currently receiving medical treatment. Upon arriving at the scene, the police immediately arrested the driver.
