In the early hours of June 14, a fatal car accident occurred on Highway 65 in New Taipei City, involving two cars suspected of rear-end collision while heading from Xinzhuang towards Banqiao. One car drove in the wrong direction and crashed down an overpass entrance, colliding with a bridge pylon, causing the vehicle to catch on fire. The driver, identified as a 52-year-old man surnamed Zhang, suffered severe injuries and burns and was pronounced dead at the scene. The exact cause of the accident is still under police investigation. Zhang was found with multiple gas cylinders in the car, which will be further examined for the type of gas being carried. Police also discovered the driver had hit another car before the tragic crash. Blood tests for alcohol were inconclusive due to Zhang's critical condition.
